Let's show up the audacity of Alliance

Throughout the past few weeks, the Alliance Party has had a strategy of spin in terms of the Union flag at Belfast City Hall.

At the weekend, our party leader, Peter Robinson, made it clear that Belfast is an integral city within the Union.

Yet Alliance and Ian Parsley wish to make the Union divisive, as do Sinn Fein and the SDLP.

It has become clear that Alliance is now showing its true colours - they have no intention of a shared future for unionists.

In fact, they want unionists to sacrifice their own national flag for the idea of 'good relations'.

I ask Alliance: if your policy is one of flying the Union flag on designated days, why do you wish to permanently remove Union flags flying at two council premises on designated days?

In fact, the spokesman leading the spin, Mr Parsley, never proposed the idea of designated days on North Down Borough Council, which flies the flag 365 days a year, yet he was happy to allow a Union flag on his campaign literature when he was an Ulster Unionist/Conservative candidate.

This demonstrates Alliance's audacity: it has a so-called 'policy', yet applies it only when it suits.

Where is their 'designated days' proposal here? Or did Sinn Fein and the SDLP advise them that they could only support designating the Union flag to one location?
