The passing of world champion snooker player Alex Higgins is a sad occasion.
The occasion is made all the more heartbreaking given the circumstances of his final days.
Given the enormous amounts of money in today’s sport, is it not time the governing bodies of each sport established a support system for those stars who, for whatever reason, fall on difficult times?
Alex is not the first sporting hero to find wealth and fame difficult to handle.
A small percentage levy based on all financial aspects of the sport would allow the sports body to help sustain the dignity of fallen stars.
