I READ that the Bakken Field in North Dakota, USA, is yielding 700,000 barrels of oil per day. At the present price of oil, that is approximately £35m per day. This amounts to about 10% of the US output.
The problems of extraction and waste disposal are fully controlled through strict legislation by the US government.
Is it not time that we looked into the possibility of having some type of shale oil exploration in Northern Ireland? This would give a boost to our economy.
