Mandela was an example for all
THE worldwide admiration for Nelson Mandela's life acknowledged his spirit of forgiveness and his willingness to always compromise.
He was imprisoned for 27 years by the harsh apartheid minority government, but agreed to co-operate with them to form the Rainbow nation.
His willingness to forgive and to compromise prevented civil war and led to a South Africa where all races and creeds live in a shared society.
His example should be followed by many countries in conflict – not least in Northern Ireland, where we are still far from creating a shared society for everyone, free from sectarianism and racism.
