Many still prospering from divided Northern Ireland society

THOSE who headed up house-building projects in Northern Ireland during the 1970s and 1980s should be asked to explain what the current impasse in politics here in Northern Ireland is all about.

During that time, paramilitary organisations on both sides of the Northern Ireland divide worked collaboratively to divide the territory up between them for the extraction of so-called 'protection money'.

Since then, they have transformed themselves into 'respectable' political parties, but continue to prosper on the same principle of looking out for each other's interests.
