Mayne could not have been a pro rugby star

Angela Rainey has obviously confused 'professional rugby player' with 'international rugby player' (News, December 11).

Robert Blair 'Paddy' Mayne may have been many things, but professional rugby player wasn't one of them. When he played rugby union for Ulster, Ireland and the Lions, rugby union was an amateur sport, only going professional in the 1995/96 season.
