Maze saga is an affront to IRA victims

With hospitals and industry crying out for funding, it's shocking to hear that £350,000 has been spent on maintaining a number of derelict, pre-cast concrete buildings on the former Maze Prison site, with questionable listing protection.

The Maze buildings should have been de-listed by the DUP Environment Minister, Edwin Poots, whose department rejected the original request by Sinn Fein by 5 votes to 1 in 2005.

The Historical Building Council stated it "did not feel that the buildings in the complex were unique, nor had they any special architectural value". However, this decision was strangely reversed at a later review. For the DUP not to investigate this smacks of another cave-in to IRA/Sinn Fein. It's an affront to the people of Lagan Valley and IRA victims.
