Nationalists in Lurgan did not support attack

I AM writing to appeal to the media to be more careful when writing about communities in the wake of terrorist attacks.

Recently, residents in Inglewood, Lurgan, were angered when the entire neighbourhood was branded "a staunch republican area" by the media in the wake of the murder of prison officer David Black.

The fact that dissident republicans dumped their stolen car in the Inglewood area does not mean the people there supported the murderous attack on Mr Black. They did not. Nationalists in Lurgan know only too well the pain of losing loved ones through violence. It is not something they would wish on anyone and the implication that they do should not go unchallenged.
