New approach to politics

It is obvious that the DUP policy of 'ourselves alone' has now run into the sand.

I propose a radical solution. Instead of condemning the UCUNF tie-up, they should perform a similar link-up.

After all, Ian Paisley said he got on so well with Martin McGuinness because both parties' supporters were basically socialist.

So the DUP should link up with Labour to form Ulster Labour and Unionists New Force. This would have all sorts of benefits.

It would re-cast Ulster politics on left-right lines. It would also provide a rallying point against the cuts we are likely to face in the months ahead.
