Northern Ireland parties should behave with a little humility

For the DUP and Sinn Fein, their much-vaunted mandate" is a mirage. Our two largest parties both need a severe dose of reality - and humility.

Yes, they garnered the largest number of votes cast, but they seem to have forgotten that even that doesn't actually demonstrate anything like the support they claim.

Both got approximately 28% of a 65% turnout. That means that neither party has the positive endorsement of even 20% of the adult population of Northern Ireland.

Hardly a reason to talk like they own the place.

As we like to say here, wise up. Realise that most people didn't vote for you and start to talk and act like you just might conceivably understand that strident, cocky self-assurance and arrogance is destroying this place.
