Nothing funny about domestic abuse of men

I wish to express my concerns regarding a joke published in your newspaper (Write Back, June 22).

It was in relation to a man and his wife having a heated discussion over finding a piece of paper with a woman's name on it. The female character in the joke strikes her male partner twice on the head with a frying pan.

While this is meant to be humorous, I believe this joke has undertones hinting at domestic abuse.

As a victim of domestic abuse, I find that this joke clearly makes light of the issue of domestic abuse against men and treats it as a source of entertainment, rather than as a very serious topic.

Your readers need to be further informed on the issue of domestic abuse against men in case they think that the type of behaviour outlined in this joke is acceptable.
