One-sided policing at Dublin game

While attending the recent Republic of Ireland v Northern Ireland game in Dublin, I observed Garda officers removing a banner protesting at the FAI's continued practice of poaching Northern Irish players. This action was taken at the behest of FAI officials.

When questioned, a Garda officer said the banner was being removed as they felt it was intended to incite trouble.

Why then did gardai not take any action against the 'Ireland' fans who booed the national anthem, chanted IRA songs and generally abused our travelling support? Would it be because the FAI did not direct them to do so?

I am disturbed that the Garda acts as a praetorian guard for the FAI suits in Abbotstown and seemed determined throughout to make Northern Irish fans feel as ill-at-ease as possible.
