Orange Order should allow Catholics to join

Some time ago I mentioned to a friend I thought there should be Catholics in the Orange Order. My friend said it would be like having blacks in the Ku Klux Klan.

There is much truth in that, but the truth also is that the Pope made a generous monetary contribution to William's campaign, which had European Catholics in its ranks. King James' army had Irish Presbyterians in its ranks.

In the 21st century, the Orange Order bears little resemblance to the campaign of William, which was a struggle for civil and religious liberty.

Since that time, anti-Catholicism and sectarianism has taken over the Orange Order.

It is high time the Order opened its doors to Catholics on the basis of Papal support for William and the presence of Catholics in William's army.
