Performers are streets ahead in excitement

I’m writing to you about the article by Lindy McDowell and the Festival of Fools in Belfast (Life, May 4).

Ms McDowell confesses in the article that she didn’t see any of the Festival of Fools and yet is satisfied to put to print, remarks which could only put off future support and attendance at this fabulous event.

For Ms McDowell to denigrate the art of street theatre with no first-hand experience of these acts is insular journalism.

I commend Belfast City Council and other supporters for bringing to the streets of Belfast entertainment which is fun and unique.

There is nothing to compare with the skill and excitement of a performer who, by their proximity with their audience, can excite and engage adults and children alike.
