Petty politics is so unsporting

FOLLOWING the Northern Ireland team's success at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Stormont Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure held a reception at Parliament Buildings. Such a reception was both appropriate and right.

Sadly, the minister allowed petty politics and Sinn Fein dogma to enter into the wording on the invitation by asking athletes and officials who had "represented the north of Ireland" to attend.

As we look forward and continue to work on establishing an increasingly normal, peaceful and tolerant society, such petty politics need to be consigned to the past.
