Police presence is reassuring to see

I was surprised to read in your report ('While armed police were on every corner, only foreign visitors seemed to notice', News, Nov 25) that police Land Rovers and heavily armed officers in Belfast city centre caused bemusement to foreign students.

I holidayed in Nice a few weeks ago and saw the same protection, plus armed military patrols. People took this as normal. And although my friends and I did notice, we were not bemused. We should appreciate the PSNI's efforts to provide this level of protection.
