Pope is out of touch on abuse

The maxim 'when in a hole, stop digging' has not filtered through to the Vatican. The latest attempt by Pope Benedict to apportion blame for child sex-abuse could not have come at a worse time. People are abandoning the church in the Pope's native Germany. His claim that "paedophilia was not considered a grave crime in the 1970s" was ill-advised.
