Questions to answer over white elephant
The publicity given by your columnist Eamonn McCann to the proposed billion pound dual-carriageway, the A5WTC, from Londonderry to Aughnacloy, is public service at its best (Comment, December 14).
It illustrates the failure by the Stormont Executive to question a plan that represents a white elephant awaiting birth.
This is at huge cost to Northern Ireland as well as Republic of Ireland taxpayers. Had the Executive questioned this plan, one might have some confidence in their ability to deliver a stable economy supported by relevant, sustainable transport infrastructure.
It has failed. It is left, instead, to a journalist to ask the questions the Executive should have asked three years ago.
