Raising air tax would be bad for economy

So the Government plans to increase Air Passenger Duty (APD) by 8%. Do they not realise how detrimental this is going to be?

This is going to hit one of our largest industries and probably lead to redundancies. Who on earth is going to want to fly out of here when people are going to be charged so much extra in tax?

The Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands increased APD and then lowered it again when they realised the tax was losing them money in reduced passenger numbers, compared to what they were making back in the tax.
