Remember the huge sacrifices of Great War

MY father volunteered for the duration of the First World War in August 1914 and participated in the battle of the Somme and the battle of Gaza. To gauge the sacrifices made by our war veterans you only have to look at the figures. The total number recorded as killed or missing in the war is 702,410, with an average daily killed-and-missing rate of 450. Currently, 447 of our armed forces have died in Afghanistan which is a figure close to one day's fatalities in the First World War.

This in itself is shocking, but it's also an indicator of the sacrifices made during the First World War.
