Republic's TV is not tied to HD

Thank you for the helpful pieces you have been publishing on the digital switchover.

I think it is important, however, to point out that TV viewers who would like to receive channels from the Republic do not necessarily have to buy HD equipment to do so (News, October 26).

Following completion of the switchover on October 24, TG4, RTE One and RTE Two are now more widely available via two different services.

Anyone previously watching these channels in analogue via overspill from the Republic should still be able to continue doing so using their existing aerial and either Saorview equipment, or newer Freeview products, both HD or MPEG4 standard.

Freeview HD equipment, however, is necessary for those who wish to get the channels from transmitters in Northern Ireland.

Viewers can get advice on the Freeview channels available in their area and which equipment is required by calling Digital UK on (08456) 505050, or by visiting our website, digitaluk.co.uk.
