Resurrect sports museum plans

As the Olympics continue, I would like to resurrect the idea of a Northern Ireland Sports Museum in the middle of Belfast.

This is an idea that I have been pushing for years in the wake of the deaths of George Best and Alex Higgins. I suggested the old Athletics store building, but no one seemed interested.

There was more interest in knocking down this building than recreating it as a sports museum.

There is a dearth of joined-up thinking when it comes to celebrating present and past sporting achievement in Northern Ireland.

Suggestions are usually single monuments, but we need more imagination.
