Royal Academy penny-pinching deters buyers

Judging from my recent experience at the Royal Ulster Academy annual exhibition, times must be very hard indeed.

The academy no longer labels any of the art, nor do they supply a simple list to tell visitors the artist responsible for the work on display, or the asking price. Instead, one is expected to purchase a £10 catalogue.

When I visited, they would not let me borrow a copy or even consult one. I was expected to return to reception with the relevant item number to find out anything.

I hope this strategy makes some money through sales of the catalogue as I suspect this strategy is going to deter many potential buyers.
