Ruane should come clean over cutbacks

The bombshell landed by Education Minister Caitriona Ruane that £87m will be withdrawn from the Education budget by the British Treasury asks serious questions.

What needs to be clarified is exactly when the Education Minister was aware that this End of Year Flexibility fund was under threat and what steps did she put in place to advise schools who were set to lose out?

Schools not being made fully aware that their End of Year Flexibility fund was being withdrawn could lead to potential job losses and redundancies across schools in the future due to the Education Minister's failure to alert them.

With the education budget already affected by major financial cutbacks, the £87m reduction adds further insult to injury.

Simply blaming the British Treasury for swiping money that was not spent is an easy get out clause for the Education Minister.
