Same faces who failed us want our vote again

William Douglas (Write Back, May 10) has raised an exceedingly thorny question concerning the candidates who are currently standing in the forthcoming general election.

That is: do we want to vote for the very same candidates who we recently voted into office as MLAs in the Assembly election and who have subsequently failed us all completely?

No, indeed, especially when none have delivered anything of use or value.

It is really quite astonishing that the same candidates are now standing again and, in all probability, will end up re-elected.

Northern Ireland politics is really starting to rapidly resemble a rather stale duck pond, or goldfish bowl, unless we start to see some new faces - especially ones who can deliver real change.

It is apparent that the electorate has only itself to blame for voting habitually tribally. As Cassius says in Act I of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves."
