SDLP content to side in private with unionism

IT is no surprise that the SDLP's Alex Attwood has stood behind the DUP in the row over the Tory welfare cuts, given the declaration of an SDLP candidate that he was an "economic unionist".

When one looks at the record of the SDLP on welfare reform, we can see that, from the start, when it was first mooted, the position of the SDLP was to implement cuts with the least fuss possible.

It is clear from Alex Attwood's comments that the SDLP... are privately still content to side with unionism in applying Tory economic policy to Ireland.
