Slash the MLAs, not the musicians
This year the Ulster Orchestra and the Belfast Philharmonic Choir delivered an excellent performance of the Messiah.
Their talent and competence contrasts with the bickering and immaturity for which Stormont is acquiring a reputation. While the choir and orchestra thrill, inspire, educate, entertain and are a source of pride, our Assembly and Executive achieve little.
The Ulster Orchestra is under threat of extinction for want of a relatively small amount of public money, yet they deliver results on the smallest budget of any regional orchestra. Meanwhile, Stormont is proportionately the most generously sized and expensive Assembly in the UK. It would seem that it is the wrong budget that is being cut.
