Sliver of hope for suffering Palestine
TWO steps, slow and small, but significant, have taken place recently which give encouragement to supporters of Palestine here.
One is the new report from the Government on Israeli settlements. This reiterates the government position on Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Golan and East Jerusalem, which is that they are unlawful.
The report also advises that there may be legal and financial risks involved in doing business in the settlements, and risk of British firms being linked to the abuse of the rights of Palestinians.
The other is that the Israelis announced they are to shelve the demolition of about 40 "unrecognised" Palestinian Bedouin villages driving 50,000 people into townships. These developments deserve far more media coverage.
