Small Claims Court is no final solution

Last September, I left a house in Larne that was owned by a Belfast landlord. His representative checked the house and agreed that there were no faults, so my deposit would be returned.

When attempts at contacting the landlord failed, I started Small Claims Court procedures.

He ignored the initial and second notifications from the court. The third action was to have an Enforcement of Judgment decree issued. This was to cost £141 and I was informed by a senior clerk that there was no guarantee that the landlord would pay. Also, no further action could be taken.

Your readers should be aware that the Small Claims Court is no guarantee of success.
