Soaring energy prices are just not adding up

I ASSUME that in September your readers received a letter from NIE expressing their regret at increasing prices by 18.6% as a 'result of high world fuel costs'. They assert that this is the first price change since they cut prices in 2009 by 'over 15%'.

In January 2009, they cut domestic rates by 10.5% after increasing prices in July 2008 by 33% and in October 2008 by a further 17%.

This latest price rise brings the total price increase since July 2008 to 65% at a time when fuel prices are in fact lower than they were then. Am I the only consumer who gets the feeling that he is being had?
