A new era dawns for South Down as the electorate voted for SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie to represent all the people of South Down.
The 20,648 votes cast for Margaret Ritchie were for looking forward to a shared future and the abolition of sectarianism and religious headcounts/pacts and full representation.
The electorate has clearly spoken that they want a politician who will fight on need and not creed and who will work to bring down the social and political barriers that have been a direct result of the Troubles and sectarianism.
As Northern Ireland moves away from the old days of sectarian politics, the people of South Down can rest assured that Margaret Ritchie will be a strong voice at Westminster and a strong advocate of a shared future based on equality for everyone.
