State should make enterprise zones a priority

The coalition Government has designated a number of areas on the mainland as enterprise zones, which effectively permits tax relief on investment in development within those areas.

This is not a novel scheme as there have been many enterprise zones over the years in England and Wales.

There is now every reason to treat the province as an enterprise zone. The effect would be to encourage property development and give a much-needed boost to the construction industry.

I wonder why our Government has not, over the years, and is still not pressing for the establishment of such zones as a priority.

Perhaps there is some disadvantage we do not know about.
