Strange noises in the sky 'caused by Britten-Norman Defender'

Many news stories are reporting strange aircraft noises in the skies over the Northwest in recent weeks.

I first noticed the noise above Derry about three weeks ago when I was taking my son in to hospital around 4am.

Being a keen aircraft spotter and pilot I was interested in the story.

I have come to the conclusion that the aircraft is a Britten-Norman Defender twin engine turboprop spotter plane operated and is based in Aldergrove.

It is used for counter-terrorism and general surveillance. It is operating over Limavady at the moment and has been for several days.

I have seen the plane and im 100% sure given the wing planform etc that it is the defender.

Hope this clears up any concerns.
