Support for the Union strongest for many years

AS a proud unionist and Orangeman who has lived in north Belfast all my life, I will not be going nowhere, nor will my community, in spite of what the bigoted backwoodsman singing at Ardoyne demanded.

As for Her Majesty's Crown Forces, it's simple: they are garrisoned in Northern Ireland, as they are across her United Kingdom. Our place within the Union is secure, with more and more Catholics supporting its retention. Today, a legislative assembly operates at Stormont, with SF and SDLP members serving as ministers of the Crown and laws being enacted only with Royal Assent.

As we look forward to celebrating the centenary of the formation of Northern Ireland, we do so in the confidence that support for the Union has never been stronger across our society.
