Syria could be helped by talking to Assad

When diplomacy fails we must resort to military intervention says Tim Farron. We have never had diplomacy in Syria.

When the conflict was six months old the government declared that Assad had lost legitimacy. They never explicitly called for regime change but that is what they meant by 'political transition' and their claims to be working for negotiations with Assad were a fraud.

Assad could not be involved in "negotiations" until he had agreed to step down. That is why this 'so complicated' catastrophe has lasted six years with no end in sight.
