I wish to challenge the intemperate comments made about senator Edward Kennedy by Sammy Wilson in Westminster.
Senator Kennedy has been a true friend of Ireland and has always advocated the primacy of peaceful politics. He has been a passionate supporter of the peace process and challenged anyone who put peace in jeopardy, including republicans, the DUP and the Government.
To understand Senator Kennedy's position in Ireland, you have to explore his relationship with John Hume.
He developed his relationship with Ted Kennedy to build a powerful Friends of Ireland group which challenged Irish Americans providing financial support for the IRA.
Along with President Bill Clinton, Senator Kennedy has been a great friend to Ireland.
