This battle of attrition must have a solution

There are many valid arguments regarding the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. However Colin Nevin (Write Back, December 29) is clearly wrong in stating that Israel suffered Hamas rockets for "eight years before they decided to react".

Israel reacted ruthlessly throughout those years, killing and injuring thousands of activists and civilians alike.

Both sides commit terrible atrocities, but Israel with its much superior firepower kills more, and so gets the most condemnation.

It can't go on like this. Do the Israelis want to live forever with air-raid shelters, checkpoints and barriers, constantly fearing suicide attacks and now, their politicians unsafe going abroad?

Surely it's time to talk peace and a two-state solution.
