Time for action over wasteful governance
The squandering of public money is not a new phenomenon. Never a week goes by without reports of waste and maladministration across the UK, in both the public and private sectors.
The time has surely come for Westminster, together with the devolved administrations, to put reformed rigorous scrutiny in place, with judicial powers if necessary, to ensure transparency, accountability and corporate governance are values at the very forefront of public service.
Whether this should be an independent body is open to debate, but public confidence in Government institutions across the UK is being eroded on a daily basis.
If 'joined-up government' means anything, an independent regulatory body, with a UK remit, could be one of the solutions in restoring confidence in financial probity.
