Time to reform honours system

It is high time the honours system was reformed. Saturday's list showed highly paid civil servants getting top end awards for just doing their job, while Ernie Cromie of the Ulster Aviation Society gets a BEM, the lowest possible award, for devoting half of his life to tirelessly promoting Ulster aviation as a volunteer.

His legacy will become one of Ulster's great tourist attractions in years to come once the problems over site development are resolved, while the public servants will retire into obscurity.
