Trump and conflict in the Middle East

It is laughable that Donald Trump's son-in-law could broker a lasting peaceful resolution in the Middle East.

This would be the most audacious publicity stunt done ostensibly to further the Trumps' business empire, exactly as Tony Blair did during his tenure as special emissary to the Middle East.

Arabs and Muslims should rely on themselves in their bid to halt Israel's territorial aggrandisement, and its flagrant disregard for the sanctity of Islamic and Christian sites.

People have suffered political and social malaise, economic injustices and cultural oppression for too long. It is time to understand global dynamics in the aftermath of the Brexit vote, the surge of nationalism, Islamophobia, racism, anti-Semitism, economic uncertainties and social unrest.

However, Mr Trump has pledged to work assiduously with moderate Arab leaders such as King Abdullah II of Jordan to bring a peaceful resolution of this long-standing conflict.

Let us give this last hope a chance.
