Turning a blind eye to Bible's unpleasantness
E T KIRKLAND (Write Back, March 24) is typical of the response of Christians when the embarrassing parts of their Bible are pointed out to them.
It is so much easier to dismiss these parts as 'out of context' than to admit that the Bible really does condone some rather unpleasant stuff.
Like it or not, the biblical door is wide open for those who fancy a little polygamy. And there are other marriage practices - divinely sanctioned - that Christians would also rather not be reminded of, like marrying one's brother's widow.
So long as Christians object to same-sex marriage on biblical grounds, they are fair game.
And I shall delight in reminding them that biblical marriage is not just one man and one woman.
