Unionists should wear Easter Lily

In welcoming the decision of the new SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie to be the first nationalist leader to wear the poppy at a remembrance ceremony in the North, Ulster Unionist deputy leader John McCallister remarked that Ms Ritchie's attendance was “a significant contribution to building a shared future in Northern Ireland by recalling the sacrifice of those who fell in the two World Wars”.

I now look forward to Ms Ritchie's magnanimous gesture to the unionist community being reciprocated next Easter when ‘a further significant contribution to building a shared future' can become a reality if Mr McCallister and his unionist colleagues wear an Easter Lily to honour those who stayed home and fell fighting for the right of this small nation to be free.
