US veto delays Palestine peace

I WONDER how many people in Northern Ireland are aware that two weeks ago the United States used its veto to block a resolution at the UN Security Council condemning Israeli settlements.

What makes this decision by the US even worse is that the vote was 14-1 in favour of the resolution, with even the United Kingdom voting in favour of it. But, because the US has a veto, the policy has been turned down.

While I admit that there are many problems with Palestinian terrorists and the apparent support in many Arab nations for the dissolution of the state of Israel, the United States needs to understand that Israel is not 100% innocent.

Using their veto in this way will not help the peace process in the Middle East. Indeed, it may make things worse.
