We must show leadership to rid world of bigotry
MAURICE Fitzgerald's letter (Write Back, August 12) echoes similar sentiments I have read many times over from Irish citizens living in the Republic.
Yes, I agree with Gerry Kelly that those who lost their lives in the senseless, useless conflict to unite this country be remembered.
That applies to everyone who paid the price of defending their respective view of freedom – the freedom to believe in Ireland's unification, or the freedom to remain within the British political system.
We must also not forget the innocents, as well as those maimed for life.
Surely the best way Sinn Fein and unionist politicians can do justice to both their causes is to show leadership and let the world see that Ireland can lead the way in ridding the planet of the curse of sectarianism.
