We need our own 9/11-style memorial site

I watched with great emotion, the memorial ceremony for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday.

I listened and began to type as they called out all the names of those who died in the attacks.

It prompted me to pose a question to the people of Northern Ireland.

Could we not hold a similar memorial service for ALL the victims of the troubles here in Northern Ireland and create a similar memorial-type garden like that at Ground Zero so that people could visit, reflect and pay respect to all those who lost their lives here?

I realise and I am sensitive to the fact that victims and their families need to hear the truth of what happened to them, but instead of spending money in all the historical enquiries which are never-ending (and in many cases inconclusive), could we not spend the money on creating the venue I have suggested?

I believe it would be something positive and tangible for us all.

The people who suffered in 9/11 have set a good and noble example which we could follow.
