What about the smoking drivers?

I AM always amazed by the furore over people eating while driving. ('Storm over police officer who 'ate ice cream as he drove'. Belfast Telegraph, July 24). As far as I can see there is no law specifically against it, no matter what Dolores Kelly says. Rather, there is the vague "not being in control" of the vehicle rule.

I reckon it's only "jobsworths" who would bother about anyone eating while driving. If the matter is really considered to be important, what about smokers? They have a burning incendiary device they might drop, perhaps causing the driver to lose control and crash! Which is a more likely danger? Which is never prosecuted?
