Listening to BBC Radio Ulster the other day, I heard a prominent local presenter warn a freelance journalist that everyone needed to be careful that the BBC didn't undergo 'trial by media' over the Savile cover-up. For this presenter to say this shocked me - to say the very least.
This same presenter, in particular, and the BBC in general are infamous for the 'trial by media' of others.
Just one example is the treatment of Lord Maginnis by the BBC, who was quoted out of context and then sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered - all in a BBC-led media frenzy.
