Shaun Woodward recently stated the threat from dissident republicans was from a tiny group threatening the 'peace process'.
Contrasting reports, however, have appeared in the Belfast Telegraph recently, which suggest the threat is much more severe.
Dermot Ahern, the Irish Justice Minister, has warned that "the Real IRA and Continuity IRA now pose a threat as serious as any paramilitary organisation did during the Troubles".
It may be of interest to the Secretary of State that the Provisional IRA in Belfast and the Official IRA in Londonderry launched their campaigns with less than half the 600 dissidents we are told there are. How long must we wait to see if this 'tiny' group of dissidents will dissolve away like snowmen into history? More likely the Secretary of State will melt away into political obscurity.
