Write Back: Alf McCreary lets religion off too easily

Behind every conflict, war, murder, bigotry and pogrom you find religion hiding somewhere in the shadows, if not leading the charge.


Thompson_TX_USA: Yeah, you would never see atheists involved in war, never mind starting a war, now would you?

Chrisdoh: Well, historically, there haven't been remotely as many of them, so that's hardly surprising.

Bernard29: True. And the more of them there are, the less violent humanity gets, which flies in the face of the religious shackle that without one, or other, god, we'd all be going to hell in a handcart.


One_More_Thing: Sorry, but that Steven Pinker claim has been well and truly debunked, especially since the 20th century, with the greatest rise in the number of atheists, also saw more violent conflict than any other century.


Bernard29: That doesn't sound like a big moral development to me. Not as a percentage of people on the planet.
