House of Lords is a family affair
While on the subject of our landed gentry, an election is to take place for a new member of the House of Lords.
It's to replace Conservative hereditary peer Earl Ferrers, who has died. The only people that can vote are Conservative hereditary peers and the only people eligible to stand are Conservative hereditary peers, including a former MP who quit Westminster after claiming for moat-cleaning on his expenses. Isn't democracy a wonderful thing?
